Revolut confirmed a disruption in its services, and DPD reported problems with its website. Downdetector recorded thousands of reports.

The UK's HM Courts and Tribunals Service reported an outage of its video platform for remote hearings. In a statement on X, it said it was working with technology partners to restore the service. It did not directly refer to Google Cloud. The Criminal Bar Association had earlier said that lawyers for both sides could not continue trials or other hearings.

Google confirmed a disruption of services in the europe-west2-b zone. The power failure has already been resolved, the infrastructure is gradually recovering, and the remaining services are to be restored in the next stage. The europe-west2 region is headquartered in London.

Scale of the outage

The outage began in the morning, around 8:00 a.m., and lasted more than four hours — according to Spider's Web. At around 10:00, the number of reports concerning Revolut exceeded 2,500. Later, the reports decreased: falling to about 1,000, and currently they remain at around 1,200.

Rzeczpospolita notes that Downdetector recorded an increase in the number of reports on Tuesday morning. The problems affected customers from various countries, including Poland — writes RMF24, citing signals from around the world. On social media, users complained that they could not pay for purchases or withdraw money.

Revolut itself assures that all customer funds and data remain safe. Work to fix the fault has been ongoing since the morning, when the problem was identified.

However, it is not just a matter of logging in. Users reported that Revolut payment cards did not work during ordinary payments in stores. The bank did not say when services would return to full capacity.

Cause: Google Cloud outage in London

Revolut's backend is based on Google Cloud solutions, and it is precisely the cloud provider that is struggling with an outage in the europe-west2 region with its center in London. In practice, neither the payment authorization system nor login is working.

The German branch of ING bank also confirmed difficulties, where the problems concerned logging in to the app and online banking.

Google Cloud is one of the largest cloud providers alongside AWS and Microsoft Azure. In October last year, an outage in the largest AWS data center region in the US led to the shutdown of more than 1,000 services, including the websites of British banks. This time, London was affected.
