A mortar shell about 30 centimeters long was found on Tuesday, October 20 in the morning in Wrocław's Szczepin district, in the area of a kindergarten and School Complex No. 1 on Słubicka Street. The area was secured by emergency services, primarily the police. Over 500 people were evacuated, including the school's students.
Students are leaving the building and heading home. School Complex No. 1 will be closed both on Tuesday and Wednesday. Officials from the Press Office of the Wrocław City Hall are urging people to avoid the area of operations and follow the instructions of officers.
A sapper patrol is already on site. The removal of the shell is planned for Wednesday, October 21, although the hour and details of the sappers' operation are not yet known.
This is the second find in Wrocław on that day. On Kolejowa Street, an operation was simultaneously underway involving a 250-kilogram aerial bomb from World War II, which was taken to a training ground in Świętoszów. The scale of the operation on Słubicka is smaller, but it affects an educational institution, which, with two closed days, means a week of childcare disruption for parents.
