Update 20.10.2026: On Monday, October 19, at around 3 p.m., the military ended the search at the Zemborzycki Reservoir. Nothing was found, said Capt. Marta Gaborek of the 2nd Lublin Territorial Defence Brigade (via RMF24). No decision on further action has been announced. Below is the account of Monday's operation.
Course of the search and forces involved
More than 30 soldiers of the 2nd Lublin Territorial Defense Brigade, including a Ground Search and Rescue Team and a supporting subunit, are working on Monday at the Zemborzycki Reservoir. They are cooperating with the police and the Military Gendarmerie. So far, there is no result.
On Sunday, more than 30 WOT soldiers and several dozen police officers combed the area around the reservoir. The military dispatched a helicopter to the operation. In the evening, the spokesman for the Operational Command of the Armed Forces, Lt. Col. Jacek Goryszewski, informed PAP that the search result was negative and that operations would continue on Monday. The services did not say whether it had been confirmed that anything fell.
The first two reports were received by Lublin police around 2:00 a.m. on the night of Saturday to Sunday. By late Sunday morning, several more had been counted. As reported by Superintendent Anna Kamola, spokeswoman for the Provincial Police Commander in Lublin, the reports concerned the area of the reservoir, and a similar signal about the audible sound of a passing object also came from Łęczna County. No one reported an explosion or damage to buildings.
Military hypotheses and DORSZ appeal
DORSZ announced that at the current stage, no violation of Polish airspace has been confirmed. The military is examining various scenarios: meteorological phenomena or anomalies, potential smuggling activity and provocation. None of these variants has been confirmed so far. The operation is preventive in nature and serves to verify a registered radar signal and residents' reports.
The services warn against disinformation. "It cannot be ruled out that some of the published content constitutes an attempt at information manipulation or an element of deliberate disinformation activities aimed at causing public unrest," reads the military's statements. The spread of unverified reports may, as noted, "reinforce hostile narratives."
The military appeals: if you find an object that could be debris from the object, do not approach it, do not touch it, do not try to move it. Call 112.
On the night of October 17-18, the Government Security Centre issued an alert for the Lublin region in connection with a Russian attack on Ukraine; it was canceled just before 7 a.m. That same night, residents heard "a loud sound of a passing object." The military does not officially mention the thread of Russian drones among the scenarios being investigated.
