The accident occurred on Saturday, October 17, during the takeoff of the aircraft at the aeroclub in Pruszcz Gdański. The 73-year-old pilot lost control of the glider and plummeted to the ground from a height of approximately 50 meters, dying on the spot despite resuscitation attempts. The State Commission on Aircraft Accident Investigation was immediately notified of the incident.
Rescue operation
The report of the accident reached emergency services at exactly 5:45 PM. Four fire brigade units were dispatched to the airfield.
Firefighters extracted the trapped man from the wreckage and immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The efforts were unsuccessful. A doctor from the Medical Rescue Team pronounced the 73-year-old dead at the scene. Junior Aspirant Dawid Westrych from the Provincial Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Gdańsk noted that the flight may have been a training exercise.
Prosecutor and aviation commission investigation
The circumstances of the disaster are being clarified by the police under the direct supervision of a prosecutor. As reported by Aspirant Karol Kościuk from the District Police Headquarters in Pruszcz Gdański, investigators secured evidence on the airfield to reconstruct the exact sequence of the takeoff.
A parallel investigation is being conducted by the State Commission on Aircraft Accident Investigation, which will examine the technical condition of the destroyed glider.
