In brief
- BYD is building Flash Charging stations in Europe with power up to 1500 kW. The company claims they will charge a battery from 10 to 97 percent in 9 minutes.
- There are to be up to 100 by the end of 2026 and up to 3,000 by the end of 2027. The plan was announced at the Paris Motor Show.
- The catch: currently, only the luxury Denza Z9 GT can use them in Europe. The first BYD with this technology, the Atto 8, is expected in Q1 2027.
Charging in 9 minutes according to BYD
Chinese conglomerate BYD has presented a plan to build a network of ultra-fast chargers in Europe. It was announced at the Paris Motor Show, as reported by CarNewsChina on October 13, 2026. The chargers provide direct current with a power of up to 1500 kW per connector.
According to BYD, a car with a second-generation Blade battery will charge from 10 to 70 percent in about 5 minutes. Charging from 10 to 97 percent is expected to take 9 minutes. These are the manufacturer's claims. Arena EV reports that, according to BYD, the technology retains most of its efficiency in low temperatures.
How many chargers and where
By the end of 2026, up to 100 such points are expected to be operational in Europe. By the end of 2027, up to 3,000. According to CarNewsChina, Europe is expected to account for half of the 6,000 stations BYD wants to have abroad in 2027. In China alone, the company already has over 12,000 such chargers.
The first European station launched in June in Germany. Subsequent demonstration points are operating in the UK, among others, and Auto Świat also mentions France. Arena EV reports that in the UK alone, there are to be 300 by the end of 2027. According to this outlet, BYD wants its charging to be cheaper than the competition, but has not provided prices.
The catch: one car and a high price
Only cars with a second-generation Blade battery will be able to utilize the full power of the new chargers. Today in Europe, the only such car is the Denza Z9 GT, a luxury model from the BYD group. Auto Świat, CarNewsChina, and Arena EV all report this. According to Auto Świat, the Denza Z9 GT costs over 500,000 PLN in Poland.
A cheaper option is expected to appear in Q1 2027. This is the BYD Atto 8, an electric SUV with seven seats. It will be the first car with the BYD logo in Europe to support ultra-fast charging. According to CarNewsChina, it has a 115 kWh battery, two motors with a total peak power of 570 kW, and a range of 653 km according to the WLTP standard. Prices in Poland have not yet been announced. BYD announces that more models with this technology will reach Europe in 2027.
What this means for drivers in Poland
For now, not much. Sources do not indicate that any of the first BYD chargers will be located in Poland. According to Auto Świat, the fastest public chargers in Poland currently have a power of 400 kW. There are only a dozen or so of them, out of nearly 6,000 fast DC chargers in the country.
Ultra-fast charging therefore only makes sense when two things meet: a suitable charger on the route and a car that can accept such high power. A standard electric car connected to a BYD charger will only charge at the power allowed by its own battery. The first test for Polish drivers will be the price of the Atto 8 and the list of locations, which BYD has not yet announced.
