Russian attacks on the Ukrainian capital led to a change in the visit plans of the American delegation. As reported in a "News" broadcast, negotiators Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff could not land directly in Kyiv due to military operations.
According to an account by Volodymyr Zelensky, the Russian side deliberately attacked the Kyiv airport to prevent the direct landing of the American aircraft. As a result, the plane with the delegation on board had to land in Jasionka near Rzeszów. From there, the American delegation traveled to Kyiv on a special "Peace Express" train. The journey through Poland and Ukraine took a total of 11 hours.
The incident was commented on by the Ukrainian side as a deliberate signal sent by the Kremlin. According to Volodymyr Zelensky, the attack was an attempt to prevent Kushner and Witkoff's visit to the Ukrainian capital. The Ukrainian president stated that Russia, through its actions, wants to show that it controls the situation in the airspace.
It is worth noting that this is the first visit by American negotiators to Ukraine in five years. The landing incident shows how tense the situation in the region remains. Will this change of plans affect further talks? That remains an open question, although already at the beginning of the meeting Zelensky asked how such a situation had come about, but did not receive an answer from the American representatives.
This situation casts a shadow over the prospects for peaceful solutions. From the editorial team's perspective, any attempt to disrupt a diplomatic mission through armed action is a signal that the aggressor is not interested in a swift end to the hostilities, and that any foreign visit to territory affected by fighting carries enormous risk.
