The harshest winter in the history of Poland and Europe is coming. Gas will run out, prices will explode, and people will freeze in their homes.

Germany in a panic since January

According to the expert, German decision-makers responsible for the energy system were admitting as early as the end of January 2026 that it would be impossible to rebuild the necessary gas reserves before the arrival of the frosts. They were talking about this around the "twenty-something of January" – that is, at a time when winter had not yet shown its true face.

The situation is even worse than in previous years. Previously, when the winter was truly harsh (even the Baltic Sea froze, and ferries were immobilized by ice), Germany barely managed. Today, with blocked supply routes and geopolitical tensions surrounding Qatar and Iran, there is no talk of a peaceful survival.

Oil and gas – the same drama

What was happening with spot gas purchases now also applies to oil. LNG ships from Qatar and other directions are not sailing normally. War and tensions in the Middle East are causing supplies to be unstable. Germany, which had hoped for full storage facilities, is facing a real prospect of shortages.

Poland will suffer even more

If Germany – the country with the largest storage facilities in Europe – was already saying in January that they "probably won't make it," then what awaits Poland? Our dependence on imports, weaker infrastructure, and EU energy policy mean that we will be in an even worse situation.

A brutally cold winter awaits us. Prices for gas, electricity, heating oil, and coal will soar to levels we have not yet seen. People will have to choose between food and heating. Companies will begin to lay off staff en masse or go bankrupt. The economy will receive a powerful blow.

This is not fear-mongering – it is reality

The expert emphasizes that he is not talking about some theoretical scenario. He is talking about what is already happening and what the Germans themselves are admitting. Blocked straits, problems with supplies from Qatar, war, and uncertainty surrounding Iran – all of this adds up to one picture: Europe is standing on the edge energy-wise.

Poles should prepare now. Because when the frost comes and the storage facilities are empty, it will be too late for any action.

The coming winter will not be mild. It will be brutal. And very expensive.
